How Does a Smart Home Work?
Smart lighting, climate, security, entertainment, and the Control4 hub that ties it all together.
Smart home automation
One system for lighting, climate, shades, entertainment, cameras and door locks, controlled from a keypad, touch screen or your phone. We design, program and support Control4 for homes, villas and boutique commercial spaces.

A smart home should feel simple. Press Welcome and the lights come up, the shades rise, the air conditioning settles to your preferred temperature and your music starts in the kitchen. Press Goodnight and the house closes down, doors lock and the cameras arm. That is what a well-designed Control4 system does: it takes dozens of separate devices and gives you one calm way to live with them.
Island Integration is a Control4 integrator based in Nassau. We have designed and installed automation systems across New Providence, from apartments at Ocean Club and Paradise Island to estates in Lyford Cay, Old Fort Bay and Albany, and we support them long after the installation is finished.
How we work
We begin with a walk-through or a review of your plans. We ask what you do in each room at different times of day, who in the household uses what, and where the friction is today. That conversation decides which rooms get keypads, where touch screens go and which scenes matter most.
Every Control4 system depends on the network underneath it. We install enterprise-grade networking as part of the project, not as an afterthought, because a slow or unreliable network is the most common cause of a frustrating smart home.
Equipment lives in a properly ventilated rack with labeled cabling and documented IP addresses. When something needs attention years from now, the system is understandable rather than a mystery box.
We program the system, walk you through it room by room, and then adjust scenes and schedules after you have used it for a few weeks. The second visit is where a good system becomes a great one.
Designed for the islands
Yes. Retrofits are common. Wireless lighting, battery shades and a wired network backbone let us add automation without opening every wall. New construction gives the most flexibility, so if you are building, read our pre-wire checklist early.
Local control continues to work without the internet. Lights, shades, audio and scenes run on the controller inside the home. Remote access from outside the property and cloud streaming services need a connection.
The goal is the opposite. A well-programmed system reduces a wall of switches and a pile of remotes to a few clear buttons. Guests and family members can use it without a tutorial.
DIY products are good at single jobs. Control4 is designed to tie many systems together reliably and to be supported by a professional. We compare the two approaches in this article.
Tell us about your property and goals, and we’ll recommend the right approach.
