Choose speakers built for the outdoors
Indoor speakers do not survive long outside. Look for products designed and rated for outdoor use, with weather-resistant materials, and consider how they will handle sun, rain and salt air.
Speaker types
- Landscape speakers blend into gardens and planting beds for even, low-profile sound.
- Wall or eave-mounted speakers suit covered patios and lanais.
- Pool-deck speakers should be placed where they are protected from direct splash and rated accordingly.
Zone the sound
Separate zones for the patio, pool and garden let you play music where people are and keep it quiet elsewhere. Volume, source and on/off can be controlled from a keypad or app, the way an integrated system handles indoor rooms.
Be a considerate neighbor
Sound carries over water and open space. Aiming speakers inward and using several lower-volume speakers instead of a few loud ones keeps coverage even and spill low. Check any local noise rules that apply to your area.
Power and wiring
Run cable, power and conduit to outdoor locations during construction or landscaping when it’s easiest. Use cable rated for burial or outdoor exposure, and have the connections sealed properly.
